The conversion of a former nightclub into a place of worship which includes a double height worship hall, baptism room and office.
The Brief
The Ethiopian Orthodox Church of St Mary of Zion appointed a team to turn a partially renovated and extended site on Lower Clapton Road into their church. Little was known about the rooftop extension so Tisserin were invited to review the condition of the existing structure and provide the structural design for the church facilities.
The Design
Through thorough research, areas of the existing roof were identified for repair or replacement. We worked with the client and architect to reconfigure the internal layout to provide the best circulation for the areas of worship allowing for a mezzanine level housing the office / study, to create a serene and restful hall with a softly curved ceiling.
The project is progressing on site.
